In-depth Sunday workshops by Veronica Toumanaova
There are 2 in-depth workshops on Sunday 13th October. The topic for the 3pm to 5pm workshop is “Posture and Disassociation for Pivoting” and the 5pm to 7pm workshop is “Advanced Circular Dynamics for Turns and Sacadas”. They are both in-depth workshops and will suit dancers who have been analysing their Tango and want to go in-depth. After the 2 workshops we will be going to the milonga Tango Etnia, please feel free to join us. Workshop details are provided below and booking information is available at the bottom of the page.

Posture Pivots and Advanced Circular Dynamics
All levels, basic technique

Dissociation is one of the most basic techniques in tango, facilitating circular figures such as ochos, giros, voleos, ganchos, changes of direction and so on. However, pivoting is a difficult skill to master, as it is closely related to correct postural alignment, balance, grounding and managing the centrifugal force while moving. In this class you will have the opportunity to improve your pivots significantly by going to the very basic biomechanics.

The workshop will include:

Warming up exercises to release unnecessary tension from the upper body and to reconnect to the floor
Exercises to find the correct posture for a powerful and light dissociation
Exercises to understand where the dissociation starts, how it involves various parts of the body and how to avoid hurting your back
Solo and couple exercises to practice the pivoting technique, such as ochos
Playing with various degrees of a pivot, from a simple ocho to a full turn (soltada)

Advanced Circular Dynamics for Turns and Sacadas
Int/Adv technique

This workshop is a level-up continuation of the study on pivoting from the “back to basics” workshop and focuses on creating complex circular dynamics such as turns, sacadas and overturned pivots. This workshop will allow you to find more comfort in the embrace while leading and following difficult circular dynamics as well as improve your balance for figures such as front and back sacadas.

The workshop will include:

Warming up exercises to find a comfortable dissociation and explore its limits
Using dissociation to lead and follow ochos and initiate turns
Using the elastic stretch created by the dissociation and its subsequent release for interesting circular dynamics
Front sacadas for leaders and followers: comfort, balance and dynamics
Back sacadas for leader and followers: managing the extreme dissociation and keeping the connection.
