    Cadencia of the molinete steps.

Giro is a tango turn where the Follower (usually) travels around the Leader, who is also turning but essentially becomes the center of the turn. The giro can happen in place (affixed axes) or allow the couple to travel (traveling axes).

Giro means to turn, but there are many versions of the turn. Can go to the left or to the right, can start with the front cross or back cross, or even from the open step if you really like it. It can travel around an affixed axis (or single-axis - that's when you do lapiz) or a traveling axis when the leader moves using the sacadas.

Giro is one of the essential elements you need to know to speak Tango.

Deconstructing giros is the essence of Intermediate courses. Once the couple can turn, they really start dancing. Therefore… mastering the giro is the key to making your tango fluent. Once you know the giro, you can take your tango shoes wherever you go. You are ready to dance the tango around the world.
