Cadencia: The Art of Walking with Musical Intention - 8 weeks Pre-Advanced Course
Series
In tango, cadencia is more than a rhythm or a step. It’s the way you walk, breathe, interpret, and express the music. In this 8-week Pre-Advanced Series, we’ll explore cadencia as the architectural backbone of musicality - how your posture, timing, pauses, and intention shape the story you tell on the dance floor.
This course clarifies what cadencia truly is (and is NOT): not a rock step, not a stylistic trick, but the underlying flow that transforms simple movements into meaningful dancing.
Main Focus:
🔄 Understanding cadencia in Tango, Vals, and Milonga (This is an excellent intro, even if you have never taken the Vals or Milonga lesson, or you never noticed that they differ from Tango)
🔄 How timing differs: arriving on the beat, transitioning through the beat, and initiating from the beat
🔄 Matching your walk to the orchestra - D’Arienzo, Di Sarli, Pugliese, Biagi, and more
🔄 Using posture, breath, and suspension to shape your movement quality
🔄 Cadencia as an internal state: letting go, flowing, and listening inward
🔄 Creating clean, musical walking patterns that feel grounded yet expressive
Additional Explorations:
💥 Phrasing movement to orchestral nuance: rhythm vs. melody vs. silence
💥 How pauses, rebounds, and acceleration affect your partner’s balance
💥 The difference between “carrying the music” and “chasing the beat”
💥 Cadencia changes inside simple steps: walking, rock steps, rebounds, ochos
💥 Micro-technique: foot placement, weight split, ankle articulation
💥 Building your personal style through consistency of timing and intention
If your dancing sometimes feels rushed, flat, or disconnected from the music, this series will teach you to move with purpose rather than just following steps.
You’ll learn to interpret, suspend, breathe, color, and shape your dance in harmony with the music—and with your partner.
