In tango, volcadas are not tricks or dramatic shapes. They are a conversation about axis, trust, and shared intention. A slight displacement, a subtle lean, a moment where both partners agree to leave vertical balance and create something suspended together.
In this 8-week Pre-Advanced Series, we explore volcadas as a natural extension of walking and structure, not as isolated figures. The goal is not to β€œdo volcadas,” but to understand when, why, and how they emerge organically in the dance.
This course clarifies what volcadas truly are (and are NOT): not a forced lean, not a loss of balance, but a controlled off-axis relationship built on precision, timing, and connection.

Main Focus:
πŸ”„ Understanding axis: own axis vs shared axis vs transferred axis
πŸ”„ How to safely enter and exit volcadas without force
πŸ”„ The role of the standing leg and projection in creating tilt
πŸ”„ Leader’s proposal vs follower’s response: timing and agreement
πŸ”„ Small vs large volcadas: control, intention, and space awareness
πŸ”„ Integrating volcadas into walking and simple sequences

Additional Explorations:
πŸ’₯ Forward and side volcadas in close and slightly open embrace
πŸ’₯ Volcadas from crosses, rebounds, and directional changes
πŸ’₯ Circular vs linear volcadas and how they affect navigation
πŸ’₯ Musical timing: suspensions, slow motion, and elastic transitions
πŸ’₯ How not to collapse: maintaining structure through the torso and embrace
πŸ’₯ Exits that flow: resolving volcadas into continuous movement

If volcadas feel intimidating, unstable, or unclear, this series will give you the mechanics and confidence to approach them with clarity. If you already use them, it will refine your control so they feel effortless, precise, and musical instead of heavy or forced.
You will stop trying to make volcadas happen and start recognizing when they are already available in the dance.
