We have organised Taboe camps twice a year since 2007. A lot has changed since then, but the idea hasn't: bring people together, dance a lot, share time, and see what happens.
It is about tango, of course. But Taboe has always been more than a tango festival. We call it a conscious tango retreat. That doesn't mean it's serious. There is plenty of play, laughter, music and partying. But there is also room to slow down, try something new, or have a conversation that goes a little deeper than you expected.
When people dance, eat and live together for several days, the usual distance between us gets a little smaller. We become a little more open, a little more ourselves, and sometimes we go home with a little dust washed from our souls.
CAMP THEME: TRANSITION — MOVING THROUGH CHANGE
This winter we explore transition, the moment between one thing and the next.
Tango is full of transitions: how we meet and separate, what happens when the music changes, how we respond when our partner does something unexpected.
Outside the dance floor it's the same. We move from one activity to another, from being alone to being together, from talking to listening — and we usually rush through these moments without noticing.
This week we want to slow them down a little.
When we give more attention to the beginning, middle and end of a transition, we may notice things we normally miss — and perhaps experience what comes next a little differently.
We don't have all the answers. We're curious to find out together.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Workshops: Every day you can choose up to 5 workshops from 14. Create your own programme and follow what catches your interest.
The Dance Floor: Afternoon cafés, evening milongas, parties and one dress-code evening. We play traditional tango and other music. There is no single right way to dance here.
Life Together: Most people stay the whole week, so you quickly start recognising people. You have breakfast with someone you met yesterday, share a coffee between workshops, or end up talking late at night. Accommodation is in dormitories, and the evening meals provided by the centre are simple and the breakfast is great.
Conscious Gatherings: Every day we make time for a gathering around the theme. Sometimes we dance, sometimes we play, sometimes we talk in small groups. They are not therapy and not lectures — just an invitation to look at things more deeply and from a fresh angle. Join as much or as little as you like.
